Day 2 of 5 — Built To Last. About 3 minutes.

And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.

1 Samuel 7:6

Tuesday is the day the week stops being an idea. Monday you had a plan. Tuesday you have a schedule, a lunch you forgot to pack, and a coworker who needs something by ten. Israel had the same problem. Putting away the idols was a decision. Now Samuel calls the whole nation to one place to do something with it.

They gathered. They drew water and poured it out before the LORD. They fasted. Then they said the six words the chapter has been waiting for. We have sinned against the LORD. Nothing about the Philistines. No explanation of how the last twenty years got away from them. Just the plain sentence, said out loud, together, with nothing held back in reserve.

Water poured on the ground does not come back. That is the point of it. They were not making a bargain they could undo by Friday. Confession is the part we skip because we can feel forgiven without ever saying the thing. But sin named out loud loses its grip. Sin kept private keeps working in the dark, and it keeps its old name.

They also did it together. Mizpeh was not a private moment. Church works the same way. There are things you will only ever admit in a room with other believers, and a Wednesday night is a good room for it. Today, before you sleep, say the sentence. Not a general apology. The actual thing, in words, to God, and if you can, to one person.

Growth principle: Confession is not feeling sorry; it is saying the true thing out loud to God.

Take it with you: Say your sin plainly to God today in specific words, not in general ones.

Pause and pray: Father, I have said sorry without ever saying what I did. Today I name it. I have sinned against you. Do not let me soften it or bury it again. Amen.
