Day 2 of 5 — Pioneering Faith. About 3 minutes.

He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Matthew 10:37

Tuesday morning traffic backs up on Kalanianaole and you know the timing by heart. Same route, same coffee, same seat at church on Sunday. None of that is wrong. Familiar is not the same as sinful. But Genesis 12 shows God putting His hand on the good and ordinary parts of one man’s life, and Jesus tells us why that happens.

Jesus does not say father and mother are worthless. He says they cannot be first. He names parents, the people who raised you, and then children, the ones you would give anything for. Both are good gifts. Both can quietly take the place that belongs to Christ. The measure in the verse is not affection. It is more than me.

Abram was seventy and five when he left Haran. He was not a young man with nothing to lose. He had a house, a name in town, family close by, and every reason to say he had already done his part. Comfort can become a substitute for faith. You can still attend, still know the songs, still know the routine, and quietly stop moving forward with God.

So the question is not whether you love your ohana too much. The question is whether anything in your hands has quietly moved ahead of the Lord. A job. A house. A season of life you would rather not have interrupted. Age does not retire anyone from following God. If you are still breathing this morning, He still has a next step for you.

Growth principle: Even good things become a problem when we hold them more tightly than the will of God.

Take it with you: Name the one good thing you have been holding ahead of God, and hand it to Him in prayer today.

Pause and pray: Lord, thank You for the good things You have given me. Show me where I have let one of them take Your place. I want You first today, even in what I love most. Amen.
